Project Description

“Ashes to Ashes” is about one man, Kang Bong-hee, who offers free funeral services for those with no next-of-kin in the metropolis of Daegue, South Korea. Mr. Kang was diagnosed with late-stage cancer of the bladder in 1995. On the operation table, Mr. Kang vowed to devote his life to the service of others. After his recovery, he started a non-for-profit service project that offers free transportation, cremation, and a one-day funeral.

However, things didn‘t progress so smoothly. These city council members start doubting about Kang‘s true devotion to help others without any profit and change a system to check all his works. His wife fears that this line of work brings her husband closer to death. On the days, he handles corpses she’s especially silent. The story centers around Mr.Kang while being bolstered by the idea of dying alone in today‘s world. The heavier mood about the solitary death will be balanced with the jovial Mr. Kang and his funeral service.
