PROJECT RED POT | 프로젝트 빨간냄비 (2016)
Project Red Pot is a documentary series for a social impact. The aging is a global concern and many countries are suffering without clear solutions. South Korea is now considered as a rapidly aging country and is expected to become a super-aging country by 2030. More than 50% of the number of hypochondriacs in Korea are older populations, moreover, the suicide rate of elderly is increasing sharply. It is not possible to count only on the government’s aid as the welfare budget is not nearly enough. What could be the solutions in this situation?
Episode 01. The Casserole Club
We have found a small, but also a very significant solution – ‘The Casserole Club’. This service making elderly and younger generation interact and communicate has become a representative model of ‘community-type voluntary welfare service’ in the UK. We observe how ‘The Casserole Club’ was adopted, became successful, how it is managed and what kinds of people are participating. Moreover, in Japan, there is a volunteering service, ‘Minori’, between elderlies. Retired residents make a community and deliver lunch boxes door to door for the elderly who live in remote areas in the city of Ibaraki. With diverse cases, we are hoping to point out the need for a new, appropriate method to overcome such problems of elderly welfare to Korean, or even wider, audiences.
Episode 02. Project Red Pot
We adopt ‘The Casserole Club’ to the Korean society as a campaign, named as “Project Red Pot”. In the city of Gwangju, a young social activist, Jesik Park, and city volunteering center start collaborating and organizing a system to share their meals with elderly neighbors. Through this simple act of sharing food, we’ve seen new friendships and connections.
